Under the patronage and presence of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, the second edition of the Sharjah FDI Forum is set to raise the curtains for its 2nd edition tomorrow. Organised by Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) in collaboration with Financial Times, and the fDi Magazine, the two-day event on 28 – 29 September 2016 will be held at Al Jawaher Reception & Convention Centre in Sharjah.
More than 300 renowned financial experts, top entrepreneurs and senior global businessmen will come together to review future foreign direct investment (FDI) prospects in the UAE, particularly Sharjah; and exchange their knowledge and expertise on FDI trends and developments in the UAE, Middle East and internationally. The forum’s proceedings will be materialised through more than 30 industry-led discussion panels, numerous interviews and important addresses. Exploring the challenges that obstruct the movement of capital, the event will deliberate on how to overcome them, capitalising on investment opportunities and achieving growth in different markets.

Sharjah FDI Forum Day 1
The first day of the forum will feature a series of opening remarks and welcome notes from the industry’s biggest names and economic experts, which will follow an award ceremony to recognise all the sponsors and major supporting organisations for the forum, then kick-starting the first day’s discussion panel with the unveiling of a case study titled ‘Sharjah: A gateway for International Expansion’.
Following the case study unveil is a panel discussion titled ‘Beyond oil: Capitalising on investment opportunities in the UAE’, and an interview themed, ‘Strengthening trade links between UK, Europe and UAE’. Afternoon session will feature Thumbay Moideen, Founder President, Thumbay Group, UAE, who will present a case study on ‘Creating an innovative, sustainable and self-financed private medical university and medical healthcare institution in the Gulf’, which will then follow a panel discussion titled, ‘Harnessing investment potential in UAE’s transportation and logistics sector to meet the expanding trade demand’; then another session titled ‘How important is global connectedness for SMEs?’; and the final panel discussion for the first day titled as ‘Financing cross-border expansion’.
Sharjah FDI Forum Day 2
The second day of the event will feature a welcome address by Courtney Fingar, Editor in Chief, fDi Magazine, Financial Times, followed by opening keynote by Dr. Nasser Saidi on ‘UAE: Prospects and challenges of a non-oil economic development paradigm’. ‘Growing trade links between Republic of India and the UAE’ will be the day’s first panel discussion, followed by another titled, ‘Investment trends: What are the prospects for FDI in the Middle East and UAE in the coming year?’.
The second day will also feature an interview-themed session with Dalya Al Muthanna on ‘Positioning the Middle East as a global economic hub’, as well the 2nd edition’s final panel discussion on ‘Insights and perspectives on investing and growing your business in Sharjah and the UAE’.
