Global investors, FDI experts, multinational corporations and government officials will gather in Sharjah next week to discuss foreign direct investment, the global economy and investment opportunities in the UAE. Sharjah’s second global FDI conference, which takes place from 28 – 29 September at Al Jawaher Convention Centre, boasts an ambitious agenda addressing global, regional and local investment issues.
After a ten year period of unprecedented economic change that has seen a global financial meltdown in 2007/2008, crude oil prices fall up to 70 percent of their value and governments grapple with new economic realities, Sharjah FDI Forum 2016 takes place against the backdrop of an interesting year for geopolitics and global trade. This year has already seen international economic sanctions lifted against Iran and Great Britain’s vote to leave the European Union, while the USA’s 58th presidential election is merely weeks away.
Topics to be addressed at Sharjah FDI Forum include capitalising on growth in the non-oil economy; global and regional investment trends; the global connectedness of the SME economy; post-Brexit trade between the UK and UAE; drivers for Indian investment in the UAE and Middle East region; exploiting the potential of the UAE’s logistics and transport sectors; financing cross-border expansion; and investing in Sharjah.
To be officially opened by Sheikha Bodour Bint Sultan Al Qasimi, chairperson of Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq), His Excellency Abdullah Al Saleh, the UAE Ministry of Economy’s Undersecretary for Foreign Trade and Industry Affairs and His Excellency Marwan bin Jassim Al Sarkal, CEO of Shurooq, the Forum will feature a broad range of local and global speakers. Among these are the CEOs of some of Sharjah’s biggest brands including Khalid Al Huraimel, Bee’ah Group Chief Executive Officer; Hussain Mohammed Al Mahmoudi, Chief Executive Officer, American University of Sharjah Enterprises; and Flemming Dalgaard, CEO of Gulftainer.
