Delta Food Industries (FZC) has announced plans to build a AED 60 million ($16.3m) tin can manufacturing unit in Sharjah Airport International Free Zone (SAIF Zone) in partnership with India’s Anand Tin Containers. The announcement follows the opening of the company’s new AED 40 million (US$ 11m) dairy plant in the free zone last month, which added evaporated milk and sterilised cream to Delta’s range of products.
The new can unit will cover an area of over 5,000 square metres (53,819 sq. ft.) in SAIF Zone and is Anand Tin Containers’ first manufacturing facility in the United Arab Emirates. Commercial production of cans is expected to begin by the end of July 2016 with a capacity of 30 million cans per month. In addition, the new facility will also provide PET bottles and tetra packs to Delta Foods. The PET bottle line is expected to come on stream in August 2016 with an initial capacity of 4 million recyclable PET bottles per month.
Established in 2011, Delta Foods is the second largest food manufacturing company in the UAE, exporting more than 300 containers per month to 20 countries in the Middle East and Africa. The company’s range of food products includes corn starch, custard powder, evaporated milk, hot sauce, milk powder, semolina, sterilised cream, tomato paste and tomato ketchup. The new can production unit is expected to allow the manufacturer to diversify its product range further to include canned vegetables and fruits, flavored milk and protein powder.
Rafi Agri Foods International FZC, a joint venture of global agri-commodity trader Ronald. A. Chisholm, acquired a 20 percent stake in Delta Food Industries in 2015.
Approximately 13,500 companies from 157 countries have registered in Sharjah’s free zones, 7,225 of those being located in SAIF Zone. The airport free zone has recently expanded to cover an area of 16 million square metres and announced the construction of 127 new warehouses in its industrial park. SAIF Zone’s strategic location next to Sharjah’s international airport and within easy reach of ports on Sharjah’s West and East costs, has made it popular with import, export and distribution industries
