Sharjah Public Works implements 700 development projects

Sharjah Department of Public Works announced that it has undertaken more than 700 health, educational, housing and services development projects worth over AED 3 billion (US$ 0.8b) in different parts of the emirate.

Abdullah Noman, head of supervision at the department of building projects, said that next year would see construction of many buildings including the AED 30 million (US$ 8m) Sharjah Educational Zone, the AED 60 million (US$ 16m) Manuscripts House at Al Qasimia University, and two new mosques – one costing AED 20 million (US$ 5.4m) and the other AED 21 million (US$5.7m).

He told the Emirates News Agency (WAM) that selection of Sharjah as the first Healthy City in the region by the World Health Organisation (WHO) earlier this year, requires the department to adopt new standards and specifications for its projects.
