Sheikha Bodour Bint Sultan Al Qasimi, chairperson of Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq), is expected to champion youth empowerment at the upcoming World Economic Forum on the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) in Jordan this week. Sheikha Bodour will take part in the panel session “The youth imperative: what shifts are necessary to equip the region’s youth for a future of peace and prosperity?” on day two of the forum (22 May) and will speak at at a Young Global Leaders Community event on 21 May.
Sheikha Bodour will be co-chairing the World Economic Forum on the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), which is convening from 21-23 May 2015 at the King Hussain Bin Talal Convention Centre on the shores of the Dead Sea, Jordan under the theme “Creating a Regional Framework for Prosperity and Peace through Public-Private Cooperation”. It is the first time an Emirati woman has been chosen to co-chair the Forum, which will be attended by more than 800 government, business and civil society leaders from more than 50 countries.
“The Arab region has no shortage of young talent, but the challenge is to effectively utilise such talent and invest it in the development process both locally and regionally,” said Sheikha Bodour in advance of the forum. “As the youth population constitutes over 55 percent of the total population in the Arab world, it is crucial that we engage young people in core issues, instilling in them hope and optimism while harnessing their abilities and energy to create real and lasting peace and prosperity in the region.”
Omar K. Al Ghanim, Chief Executive Officer of Kuwait’s Al Ghanim Industries and Fadi Ghandour, Founder and Vice Chairman of leadsing global logistics company Aramex will also be addressing the Forum’s session on youth.
A delegation from the Emirate of Sharjah, consisting of representatives from government departments and authorities, will also be in attendance to share and discuss different ideas, as well as exchange experiences with other participants, including political, intellectual, business and technology leaders from around the world.
