Award-winning American actor, film director, writer and producer Kevin Spacey will teach aspiring young actors via the new ‘Home Grown’ programme, a joint initiative of the Sharjah-based Middle East Theatre Academy (META) and the Kevin Spacey Foundation (KSF).
Launched under the patronage of Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Chairperson of Sharjah’s Supreme Council for Family Affairs and wife of His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, the programme will train youth from different countries around the Middle East and North Africa region at the Sharjah Institute for Theatrical Arts.
Home Grown will help young aspiring actors and actresses between the ages of 18-25 develop their performance skills. An intensive theatre training programme will run at the Sharjah Institute for Theatrical Arts between Jan 10 to 27 completely free-of-charge for 35 successful applicants from across the region.
Spacey, who was also the artistic director of the famous Old Vic theatre in London from 2004 to 2014, will be dedicate time throughout the programme to lead expert acting classes and to direct rehearsals of a new play to be performed by the students in Arabic and English.
