Sharjah takes its tourism portfolio to WTM 2014

Sharjah, the 2015 Arab Capital of Tourism, is participating in this week’s World Travel Market in London, United Kingdom to showcase the emirate’s tourism portfolio. Sharjah’s pavilion aims to provide a glimpse of life in the Emirate and highlight the unique opportunities that it offers international markets looking for a new destination for business or pleasure.

The premier tourism and travel exhibition and annual summit takes place from 3 to 6 November bringing together market leaders, public and private sector stakeholders representing travel, leisure and hospitality sectors from across the globe. Sharjah’s 330 square meter pavilion at WTM showcases the best of Sharjah’s tourism, including its heritage, festivals and tourist attractions.

According to the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA), Sharjah tourist numbers increased 15 percent during the first half of 2014 reaching more than one million and two million tourists are expected to visit the emirate by the end of 2014, driven by overseas tourist visitors. The government has invested heavily in developing Sharjah’s tourism sector as a strategic pillar of the emirate’s economy.

“This is the perfect platform and opportunity to showcase Sharjah in all its diversity, especially as it is the natural introduction to Sharjah Capital of Arab Tourism for 2015,” said H. E. Mohamed Ali Al Noman, Chairman, Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority. “The WTM always provides an excellent opportunity to connect with other international destinations and tourism companies to exchange experiences and to do business from.”

Organised by Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA), the Sharjah pavilion at WTM includes major stakeholders in Sharjah’s tourism industry including Sharjah International Airport Authority, Sharjah Environment and Protected Areas (EPAA), Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq), Coral Beach Resort Sharjah, Sharjah Museums Department and Universal Travels & Tourism.

“WTM is an ideal platform for Shurooq to showcase its rich portfolio of tourism projects, such as The Heart of Sharjah, Al Majaz Waterfront, Al Qasba, Al Montazah Amusement and Water Park, Al Bait Hotel and many more,” said Ahmed Obaid Al Qaseer, COO of Shurooq. “Our participation is also aimed at promoting new investment opportunities related to the tourism and travel sector in Sharjah, introducing the emirate as an attractive tourism and investment destination, as well as at strengthening economic cooperation with participating delegations from all over the world while promoting growth opportunities available in the Emirate. We will, also, discuss investment opportunities with our counterparts in London.”
